Tumble dryer repair in Lanarkshire
A dryer that takes two cycles to dry a load is usually restricted airflow or a failing heating part, not a machine that has reached the end of its life. Lint build-up is also a fire risk, so a slow dryer is worth sorting properly.
Common problems
- Runs but doesn't heat
- Clothes still damp after a full cycle
- Drum won't turn, or turns with a squeal
- Stops part way through the cycle
- Condenser water tank fills too quickly or water leaks
- Burning smell
What to check first
- Clean the lint filter after every load, and rinse it under the tap now and then, because fabric softener film can clog the mesh.
- Empty the water tank on a condenser dryer, and clean the condenser (heat exchanger) as the manual describes.
- On a vented dryer, check the hose behind the machine isn't crushed or blocked with lint.
- Don't overfill the drum.
When to call an engineer
Stop using the dryer and call an engineer if you smell burning. Also call if it heats but never dries, the drum won't turn, or it trips the electrics.

Common questions
Why is my tumble dryer taking so long?
The usual causes are a clogged lint filter, a blocked condenser, a restricted vent hose or a failing heating element or thermostat. The first three you can often sort yourself, the last two need an engineer.
Is a burning smell dangerous?
It can be. Lint is flammable. Switch the dryer off, unplug it and don't use it again until it's been checked.
